About Us

In September 2017, Parliament of Kenya formed a Caucus on Sustainable Development Goals and Business pursuant to Standing Order number 259. The Caucus mandate has been to promote Sustainable Development and Responsive Business through legislation, representation, oversight and partnerships and is a registered association with the Registrar of Societies.

In Kenya, the National Assembly plays a major role towards the realization of the SDGs having been granted powers to legislate laws pertaining to these areas under the 4TH Schedule of Constitution of Kenya 2010. Subsequently, article 10(2)(d) of the Constitution of Kenya outlines Sustainable Development as a National Value and Principle of Governance binding every person and every state organ.

Article 42 states that every person has the Right to a clean and healthy environment. Article 43 anchors the economic and social pillars which includes the right to highest attainable standards of health, right to healthcare services including reproductive health, right to accessible and adequate housing, right to reasonable standards of sanitation, to be free from hunger, adequate security and access to education.

Article 60(1) provides that land shall be held in a manner that is equitable, efficient, productive and sustainable and in accordance with principles of sustainable and productive management of land resources, transparent and cost effective administration of land and sound conservation and protection of ecological sensitive areas.
